The Grandin Building Ilene Christensen

Inside the Grandin Building: Martin Harris mortgaged his farm to pay for the original 5,000 book publication. Shown here is a part of the original floor, a sample of books that might've been there and an antique stove.

An Original 1830 Book of Mormon

Print Area of the Grandin Building, top floor: Type is ready to be set, page is in place and the template is in place.

Another Original 1830 Book of Mormon

Bindery Area of the Grandin Building, second floor: Soft sheep skin was used for the cover, pages were trimmed, pages bound together, and a book press. Last image is an original manuscript. Oliver Cowdery would take a few pages at a time to be type set.

Pages printed and drying. It took two years to print the 5,000 books. There were 37 signatures with 32 pages each (both sides). That's 370,000 impressions the press had to make. No wonder it took so long.
